Tachi Yamada Joins NBR Board of Directors




As a member of NBR's Board of Directors, Dr. Yamada will provide guidance to the institution's research agenda, particularly its work on global health. Dr. Yamada serves as Executive Vice President, Chief Medical and Scientific Officer, and Board Member for Takeda Pharmaceuticals, Asia's largest drug maker. Prior to assuming this role, he was President of Global Health for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation from 2006 to 2011, serving on the Executive Committee and Senior Advisory Group for the Pacific Health Summit. The mission of the Center for Health and Aging (CHA) is to facilitate dialogue between science, industry, and policy for a healthier world. Toward this end, CHA coordinates innovative research and dialogue on the demographic, economic, social, political, and medical trends related to health and aging across the globe.

History

Founded in 2004, the Center for Health and Aging tackles a wide variety of projects and initiatives, including founding and organizing the Pacific Health Summit between 2005 and 2012. In addition to the Summit, CHA has also organized major meetings in Beijing, Tokyo, Singapore, Mumbai, London, and Washington, D.C. and has served a unique role in bringing together leaders from science, industry, medicine, public health, and government to focus on the world’s most important health challenges. In conjunction with its role as a "trusted convener," CHA has built a library of case studies, Q&As, Interviews, reports, white papers, and briefing documents that have informed crucial discussions among the world’s leaders in both the public and private sectors.

CHA convenes high-level meetings and coordinates innovative research that brings together top leaders in order to yield tangible results and collaborations. In addition, CHA makes an impact through a variety of publications and briefing materials.

Pacific Health Summit

The Pacific Health Summit brought together high-level leaders in science, industry, and policy to form new partnerships, ideas, and relationships toward the goal of a healthier world. Over the course of eight years, the Summit tackled critical issues in global health: early prevention and detection of disease, pandemic flu, malnutrition, multi-drug resistant tuberculosis, maternal and newborn health (MNH), vaccines, and affordability and technologies in health.

Impact & Innovation Series

The mission of the Impact & Innovation Series is to inspire and galvanize action through the personal experience and motivation of global health leaders. The series features visionary thought pieces from global leaders and experts on the key issues, challenges, and opportunities for creative innovation and impact in global health today.

Initiatives & Research

CHA tackles challenging topics in global health policy by leveraging its unique network of top experts and convening top leaders across different sectors. To accomplish this mission, CHA works in a variety of formats that include the workshops, workshop reports, case studies, white papers, Q&A Interviews, Challenge Documents, Summit Reports, and issues of the NBR Analyses.
