Sheldon W. Simon is Professor of Political Science and faculty associate of the Center for Asian Studies and Program in Southeast Asian Studies at Arizona State University where he has also served as Chair of Political Science (1975-79) and Director of Asian Studies (1980-88). He is also Chairman of the Southeast Asia Studies Program at The National Bureau of Asian Research. A specialist on Asian security, Simon is the author or editor of seven books and approximately 80 scholarly articles and book chapters.

Dr. Simon has served as a consultant for the U.S. Departments of State and Defense and the U.S. Information Agency, has recently held a vice presidency of The International Studies Association, is a member of the Contemporary Affairs Council of The Asia Society, the Fulbright Political Science national selection committee, and the U.S. Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific. Dr. Simon earned his PhD in political science from the University of Minnesota.
