Gorton Center Discussion Series Presents: Statesmanship in the Statehouse

On Wednesday, December 9, 2015, the Slade Gorton International Policy Center and the William D. Ruckelshaus Center co-hosted their third annual statesmanship luncheon.

The lunch conversation featured four State Senators selected by Slade Gorton and Bill Ruckelshaus to discuss their views on leadership and bipartisan policy development in the Washington State Senate. Panelists shared their thoughts on the current legislative climate, along with prospects for increasing collaboration in the statehouse.

Following introductions by Bill Ruckelshaus and Slade Gorton, Renee Radcliff Sinclair, President & CEO of TVW, moderated a conversation with the following panelists:

David Frockt (D-WA), State Senator from the 46th district

Curtis King (R-WA), State Senator from the 14th district

Linda Evans Parlette (R-WA), State Senator from the 12th district

Christine Rolfes (D-WA), State Senator from the 23rd district

In attendance were elected officials, business executives, non-profit leaders, philanthropists, university students and professors, and military officers.

The Slade Gorton International Policy Center will be the living legacy of Senator Gorton’s extraordinary contributions to the Nation and Washington State. The Gorton Center will have three research priorities. First, the Gorton Center will incorporate and build on ongoing NBR initiatives to sponsor research in economics and trade, energy security, energy and the environment, and other important issues.
