Former U.S. Senator Slade Gorton

On April 6, 2016, the Slade Gorton International Policy Center hosted a panel discussion on how American NGOs and the military respond to crises around the world, with a particular emphasis on disaster relief and mitigation in the Asia-Pacific region. The panel discussed the implementation of disaster management strategies and the lessons learned from their experiences.

This program was planned and developed by the students of the Gorton Center Global Leaders Program, a year-long leadership development program for undergraduate, graduate and law students from the Puget Sound area.

The Slade Gorton International Policy Center will be the living legacy of Senator Gorton’s extraordinary contributions to the Nation and Washington State. The Gorton Center will have three research priorities. First, the Gorton Center will incorporate and build on ongoing NBR initiatives to sponsor research in economics and trade, energy security, energy and the environment, and other important issues.
