The Evolving Indo-Pacific Trade Environment
Indo-Pacific trade relations are undergoing a period of profound change. With the conclusion of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreements, regional countries have assumed greater leadership in shaping the rules of trade. Meanwhile, the U.S.-China trade war, heightened concerns over cross-border flows of sensitive technologies, and supply chain disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic have led many in the region to re-evaluate their trade policies.
As these changes continue to reshape Indo-Pacific trade, uncertainties about U.S. trade policy leave many questions about the future of its role in the region.
The Evolving Indo-Pacific Trade Environment project will analyze developments in Indo-Pacific trade through a series of events, podcasts, and expert commentaries on the roles of regional players, new approaches to address trade challenges in the region, and the policy implications for the United States and like-minded countries.
