Working Together for Stronger Security and Economic Success

For seventy years, the U.S.-Republic of Korea alliance has secured peace on the Korean peninsula. As South Korea has grown into a global player in its own right—projecting economic, political, and cultural influence well beyond its borders—the partnership has grown to address the changing nature of security and the evolving regional and global challenges confronting both the United States and Korea.

On September 5, 2023, the National Bureau of Asian Research, the World Affairs Council, and the Consulate General for the Republic of Korea in Seattle held a lunch event in Seattle to explore this strategic partnership with keynote speaker LTG Xavier Brunson, commander, I Corps. Panelists, including former U.S. Ambassador to Korea ADM Harry Harris, joined virtually to discuss the strengthening U.S.-ROK ties across security, politics, and economics sectors.
