"Mapping China's Strategic Space" with Nadège Rolland
On October 29, 2024, NBR held its twenty-eighth President’s Circle dialogue with special guest Nadège Rolland, Distinguished Fellow for China Studies at NBR. In this exclusive conversation following the two-year completion of NBR’s Mapping China’s Strategic Space project and report launch, Ms. Rolland shared her insights from serving as the project’s principal investigator and discussed with President’s Circle members and special guests the implications on the global order of how the Chinese Communist Party defines its strategic space.
NBR President Michael Wills began the event by giving his outlook on recent developments in Asia, including outcomes from the 2024 BRICS Summit and Japan’s snap general elections, as well as implications of China’s military exercises near Taiwan at the beginning of the month. Afterwards, he engaged Ms. Rolland in a conversation on key findings from the NBR Special Report “Mapping China’s Strategic Space,” how she arrived at some of those conclusions, and what new areas of research this project has opened for future exploration.
