Beyond COP26

Regional Cooperation for Climate

In November 2021, representatives of 197 countries gathered in Glasgow for the 26th UNFCCC Conference of the Parties, or COP26, with a shared goal of mitigating climate change. Building off its expert network and past work on energy and climate issues in the region, NBR is examining how regional partners will move forward after November’s meeting. Following this conference, how important is an international agreement to their national climate strategy, and what conditions or assurances from top emitters—such as China, the United States, Japan, and India—could foster cooperation and meaningful progress, at future conferences or bilaterally?

In the online roundtable “Beyond COP26: Regional Cooperation on Climate Change,” the series experts discuss outcomes of COP26, any shortcomings of the negotiations, and possible paths forward for partnership across the Indo-Pacific on addressing climate change.
