China’s View of Its Economic Sphere of Influence, Economic Security, and Trading Networks

In an essay for NBR’s Mapping China’s Strategic Space project, Karen M. Sutter argues that China is developing several alternative layers of global economic ties to advance its economic influence and reduce its vulnerabilities. Over time, these networks will offer Beijing a new way of structuring global trade relationships with both developed and developing economies under greater PRC influence and control.
