Updating the U.S.-ROK Alliance for New Frontiers
The alliance between the United States and the Republic of Korea was established in 1953 with the vision of defending South Korea from North Korean aggression and safeguarding stability in Northeast Asia. Seventy years later, the April 2023 summit between Presidents Joe Biden and Yoon Suk-yeol laid out an increasingly global vision for the alliance with new priorities in a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape.
