Asia's Uncertain LNG Future

Launch of the 2013 Energy Security Report


NBR launched its 2013 Energy Security Report, “Asia’s Uncertain LNG Future,” on November 7, 2013, in Washington, D.C.

The event featured panel discussions with senior energy specialists including Mikkal Herberg (NBR), Shoichi Itoh (Institute of Energy Economics, Japan), Jane Nakano (CSIS), Padu S. Padmanaban (formerly with USAID India), James Slutz (Global Energy Strategies LLC), and Nikos Tsafos (PFC Energy – an IHS company).

Participants discussed how and to what extent countries in the Asia-Pacific are integrating liquefied natural gas (LNG) into their energy security strategies and the key geopolitical and market implications for the United States and Asia.

Speaker Bios

Mikkal E. Herberg is a Senior Lecturer in the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies at the University of California–San Diego and Research Director of the Energy Security Program at NBR.

Shoichi Itoh is a Manager and Senior Analyst for the Strategy Research Unit at the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ).

Jane Nakano is a Fellow in the Energy and National Security Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

Padu S. Padmanaban is former Program Director at the South Asia Regional Initiative for Energy and a former Senior Energy Advisor with USAID India.

James Slutz is the President and Managing Director of Global Energy Strategies LLC, which focuses on energy project development, technology commercialization, and strategic energy advisory services.

Nikos Tsafos is Senior Manager for the Global Gas Practice at PFC Energy, a company acquired by IHS in June 2013.
